Sanitary Nitrogen and Phosphate removal
The world’s population depends on crop production, which requires fertilizers such as nitrogen and phosphate. The Saniphos (Sanitary Nitrogen and Phosphate removal) installation, treats source collected urine for the recovery of phosphate (in the form of struvite) and ammonium (in the form of ammonium sulfate). The installation recovers 5 ton struvite as well as 65 m3 of 40 % [v/v] of ammonium sulfate per year, which is sold as artificial fertilizer for agricultural purposes.
